| when 2 people are working at the same time, the duplicate sockets (one 6pt. and one 12pt.) help. Also, the 1/4" drive sockets are more useful in certain situations than the 3/8". The same goes for deep socket versus normal socket. True, you don't really need the 12pt. sockets except for certain flywheel bolts and connecting rod bolts. There's actually 12 of the same socket size:
1) 1/4" regular 6pt.
2) 1/4" regular 12pt.
3) 1/4" deep 6pt.
4) 1/4" deep 12pt.
5) 3/8" regular 6pt.
6) 3/8" regular 12pt.
7) 3/8" deep 6pt.
8) 3/8" deep 12pt. I've never seen these before for the small sizes (9-12mm) so I don't think they're necessary for them:
9) 1/2" regular 6pt.
10) 1/2" regular 12pt.
11) 1/2" deep 6pt.
12) 1/2" deep 12pt.
